
"The Year of Scanderbeg" in Hungary started with a ceremony in Szkander bég tér (Scanderbeg Square) of Eger, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Budapest and the Honorary Consul, Mr. Avni Hafuzi, to commemorate the 550th anniversary of the death of Scanderbeg. The Deputy Mayor of Eger, Ms. Maronné Adler Ildikó, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Luljeta Vuniqi, the first Hungarian astronaut and Ministerial Counselor Mr. Bertalan Farkas, as well as a number of Albanians from Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia living in Hungary honored the ceremony with their presence. Ambassador Vuniqi, Consul Hafuzi and Deputy Mayor Adler emphasized in their speeches the values of Scanderbeg as a champion of the European values, as symbol of the Albanians’ unity and of the Albanian-Hungarian friendship. Mr. Driton Smakaj recited the verses of Ismail Kadare “The portrait of Scanderbeg”. Ambassador Spasse, after underlining the modern elements for the époque in Scanderbeg’s deeds, spoke briefly on Albania’s efforts towards EU accession and invited the audience to keep promoting continuously Albania and Albanians, as well as their positive values. Ambassador Spasse and Honorary Consul Hafuzi visited the Municipality of Eger after the ceremony to discuss on the opportunities of cooperation with the two deputy mayors, Ms. Martonné Adler Ildikó and Mr. Rázsi Botond.
