Minister of European Integration, Ms. Klajda Gjosha and Minister of Justice, Mr. Ylli Manjani are paying an official visit to Brussels. Both Ministers held a meeting today with the Working Group on the Western Balkans in the Council of EU (COWEB).
Focus of the meeting were the Judicial Reform, Albania’s achievements on 5 key priorities as well as the expectation for receiving a positive recommendation for the opening of accession negotiations in a few weeks when European Commission issues the report.
Minister Gjosha briefly introduced the Working Group with concrete measures undertaken on fulfilling the 5 key priorities, stressing once again the commitment of Albanian government to move forward in the integration process.
“We are aware that what we are presenting you today is to be followed by a lot more work. We are determined to take solid and safe steps to move forward, with regard to complexity of the process and the fact that this process is based on merit of each country aspiring to join EU. On the other hand, we are convinced that we have moved forward”, Minister Gjosha said.
Focusing on the judicial reform, Minister Gjosha said that this historic consensus-adopted reform serves in the first place to citizens and has also been the requirement for opening of accession negotiations.
“Judicial Reform will enable the transformation of Albania, and we are conscious that this transformation needs time, but we intend to achieve this through the integration process, by creating a new dialogue with European Union through opening of accession negotiations on Chapters 23 and 24, which are closely related to rule of law”, Minister Gjosha added by putting emphasis once again on hope for a positive progress-report in autumn and receive the recommendation.
Minister of Justice, Mr. Ylli Manjani praised the Judicial Reform as the most important reform undertaken in the last two decades and big achievement for the country.
“Constitutional amendments are an indicator of no turning back. This makes us to seek a positive recommendation. It’s time to treat the issue with sincerity and reciprocal faith”, Minister Manjani said.
Minister of Justice also said that constitutional amendments are a positive premise, guaranteeing the successful implementation of Judicial Reform, as one of key fulfilled priorities.
The Working Group praised the so far achievements and the efforts of Albania to adopt the Judicial Reform, which they called it unusual.
